Role of Placement Cell in NIT Placements 2024

Every NIT has a placement cell that ensures the smooth functioning of the placement process at NITs. It bridges the gap between recruiting companies and prospective students. This is one of the primary motives of the functioning of the placement cell at NITs. During the placement season at NIT the placement cell logistics and operations for the placement drive organised at the campus. Apart from this in order to make its students placement ready it also organises various guest lectures, webinars, seminars etc. by industry experts in order to provide insights into emerging technologies and enhance the technological knowledge of the students. The role of placement cell at NIT does not end here. It also organises various pre placement activities for the students in order to ensure their readiness for the campus placement. Such activities include mock interviews, GD, aptitude test, etc.

NIT Placement Process

The entire placement process at NITs in India is handled by its respective placement cell. The NIT placement process has several stages such as preplacement talks by recruiters, online tests, psychometric tests, group discussions, personal interviews etc. Here the the step wise NITs placement process

Registration for NIT campus placement

Final year students without having a back log have to register for placements. This is done to estimate the total number of students as some might opt for higher studies while others may choose to go for entrepreneurship.

Sending invites to Recruiter for NIT Placement Process

The placement cell sends invites to the past recruiters along with the new recruiters and shares important information about placement. It also shares the placement brochure for that particular academic year to know the batch details.

Screening of Resumes

Interested candidates for the NIT placement process have to submit their updated resumes. Resumes are sent to the recruiters and they go through the resumes and shortlist the students on the basis of their academics, internships done, etc.

Pre-Placement Talks (PPTs)

In this formal session organised by the recruiters, they introduce themselves, provide details about  job roles, career growth opportunities at the company, and give insights into the company’s work culture and expectations from the candidates for that particular job role.

Aptitude Test

The company conducts written tests to evaluate the knowledge of the students. While some companies during the NIT placement process conduct only one round of written tests while others may also take several rounds including a psychometric test.

Now candidates have to participate in GDs wherein candidates are evaluated on their ability to articulate ideas, communication skills, ability to work in a team, and analytical skills.

Technical Interview

In this round of NIT placements the technical expertise of the candidates is assessed. Technical questions are asked to the candidates and selection or rejection decision is made according to the performance of the candidates.

Personal Interview

This round evaluates the overall personality of the candidates and how aspirational they are about their careers. This is the final selection stage and a decision is made by the interviewer whether the candidate is a suitable fit for the job or not.

This is the last stage of NIT placement process where the final job offer is made to the selected candidates and the candidates have to give their acceptance for the same.
