Admission Process at Top IITs in India

Step 1: Appear and Qualify JEE Main Examination

The first step of the admission process at top IITs in India is to clear the JEE Main exam,which is a national-level entrance exam that is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Qualifying for this exam is mandatory. Candidates who qualify for this exam are only allowed to take the next exam which is JEE Advanced. JEE Main is conducted twice a year, typically in January and April and has 90 questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The exam is a computer-based test (CBT) and the duration is 3 hours. The questions are from Class 11 and 12 NCERT syllabus.

Step 2: Main qualifiers have to appear for JEE Advanced

Only the top 2.5 lakh candidates who have qualified JEE Main are allowed to take the JEE Advanced exam for admission to the top IITs in India. The exam is conducted by IITs on a rotational basis.
